Roy Oliver Disney
And his younger brother
Walt Disney
Roy Oliver Disney is an older brother to Walt Disney! He was Walt's business partner when the brothers left Kansas City, Missouri and first established the Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio in Los Angeles, California in 1923 and got their start producing a series of silent "Alice Comedies" starring Virginia Davis as Alice that were a series of short films featuring a live-action child actress in an animated world. Truly, Roy was the brother who maintained the continued funding with Bank of America when Walt was imagining and creating his dreams from the very beginning. Roy Oliver Disney was married to Edna Francis and they were the parents of Roy Edward Disney. Roy's other siblings were brothers Herbert Arthur Disney and Raymond Arnold Disney and one sister Ruth Flora Disney Beecher. His parents were Elias Charles Disney and Flora Call Disney. The company was founded on October 16, 1923 – by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney – as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, and also operated under the names The Walt Disney Studio and Walt Disney Productions before officially changing its name to The Walt Disney Company in 1986. The company grew to establish itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and theme parks.

What would eventually became The Walt Disney Company started in 1923 in the rear of a small office occupied by Holly-Vermont Realty in Los Angeles. It was there that Walt Disney, and his brother Roy Oliver Disney, produced a series of short live-action/animated films collectively called the "Alice Comedies." The office rent was a mere $10 a month. Within four months, the ever-growing staff moved next door to larger facilities, where the sign on the window read "Disney Bros. Studio." A year later, in 1925, the Disney's made a deposit on a Hyperion Avenue lot in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles. Construction began on the new studio (shown above) shortly thereafter. During the next 14 years, many changes took place at the Disney studio: Mickey Mouse was "enhanced and completely evolved" in 1928, followed by Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, and the rest of the Disney gang.
